Like Salman Khan, actor Aamir Khan too showed his human side when he inaugurated a shelter for distressed women and children in the neighbouring Ahmednagar on Republic Day.
Aptly called ‘Satyamev Jayate Bhavan’ after his recently concluded reality television show, the actor told the media and the crowd gathered that we just cannot rely on the government for any positive changes. We need to change our mindset first.
Aamir has donated Rs.5 crore towards this project that has already seen quite a lot of distressed women and children taking refuge at the shelter.
This shelter is considered to be one of the biggest in India.
At the event, Aamir also launched a DVD of his show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ that contains all the episodes of his show that dealt with social issues.
He promised to visit the shelter at regular intervals to personally oversee the functioning of the shelter and has designated some of his staff members to keep him updated of the inmates at the shelter while in Mumbai.
