The much awaited sequel of Yamla Pagla Deewana failed to garner good response at the box office despite no other film having released along with the sequel. The box office collection was still ruled in its second week by Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
The film did pretty well in the north of India and some portions of UK and the US/Canada market but it wasn’t enough to report the film as a hit. The film failed miserable in most of the markets around the world.
What went against the film has been insipid story/screenplay which coincidently has been co-written by Lynda Deol, wife of Sunny Deol one of the stars of the film. The film couldn’t even match the weekend box office returns of the first installment and its collection on Monday stood at approximate Rs.22 crore – a big disappointment for the Deols.
It is not clear now how long the movie will have to sustain at the box office to break even. The film’s poor running has also cast doubts on Sunny Deol’s sequel to the ambitious Ghayal Returns.
Meanwhile, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continued it’s good run at the box office and looks set to play another week’s inning.
