Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Film Review

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani PosterJust the first day of the film’s release and the media hyped too much about the Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s latest release Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

All said and done, the film got mixed reviews from different quarters and we at Friday Brands decided to wait and watch before writing a review ourselves despite having caught the first day show.

On a brighter side, the film did a good business in the 3-day weekend worldwide and is a firm favorite to cross the 100 crore mark at the box office before this week ends; cementing Ranbir Kapoor’s stand as a powerhouse performer post his Rockstar and Barfi!

To cut a long film starts on a bad note from scene 1 itself. And as the movie progresses one can’t help but transport himself to the good old Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge to the recent Hum Tum and Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara. YJHD almost seems like a blend of all these films put together. Add to that the mediocre performances of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone and just ignorable the ‘Roy Kapoor’ brothers, the weak script, the inconsistent story line and insipid dialogues and the movie fails to charm you. Even the songs leaving aside a one or two (?) leaves a lot to be desired.

Yes, you have two most beautiful actors on the screen in the form of Ranbir and Deepika and the beautiful locales that are visual a big delight but that’s it. Even Madhuri Dixit’s cameo song appearance failed to evoke an interest. What had that song to do with the film’s story?  Ayan Mukherjee the director of the film and Dharma Productions, the producer however must be laughing all their way to the bank.

What worked wonders for the film has been the presence of the film’s two leading actors and its grand locales. And the icing on the cake definitely has to be the film’s marketing that evoked an interest in the ex-lovers turned friends Ranbir and Deepika’s latest outings. Who said ex-lovers can’t be friends?

In conclusion, this film is meant for those who love to watch eye candy mushy love stories just as the drizzle of the monsoon sets in.
