Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival

Yesterday, actor Kabir Bedi and director Kalpana Lajmi inaugurated the 4th Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival in Mumbai. This is one of the biggest queer film festival in the world.

The theme of this year’s festival is, ‘Towards Change’. Kashish Festival is the first gay and lesbian film festival in India and has also received clearance from I&B Ministry.

132 films from across 40 countries are in the race for top prizes in the following categories – Best Narrative Feature, Best Documentary Feature, Best Documentary Short, Best International Narrative Short, Best Indian Narrative Short and the Riyad Wadia Award for Best Emerging Indian Filmmaker.

The festival is scheduled from 22-26 May. Screening will be held from 22-26th May at Cinemax Versova and at Alliance Française de Bombay from 23-25th May.

The jury members are prominent people from the fields of films, literature and theatre – director Aruna Raje, actor Simone Singh, theatre director Quasar Thakore Padamsee, noted author and poet Jerry Pinto and Iris Prize festival director Berwyn Rowlands.

In Kashish Konversation, the spotlight will be on Jim Hubbard, a reputed filmmaker and activist from New York who will talk about his works, his inspirations and the outreach of his films. The conversation is scheduled for May 24 in the Foyers, Cinemax Versova at 5.30 p.m.
